The coronavirus has now hit DIY retailing in Italy, with Obi and Brico Io closing their stores indefinitely. Leroy Merlin had also closed its stores for a day. According to information from the news service "10 minutes DIY and Garden", other home improvement chains are currently keeping their stores open, as they are permitted to do. This is because the Italian government's order closing retail outlets provides an exemption for all stores selling goods required on a daily basis and the list of exceptions includes hardware, paint, heating equipment and electrical and plumbing items. However, the government's guidelines are unclear.
Garden centres are affected by the closure, but if they stock pet products they can seek a permit.
