After a bad previous year, the garden market grew again in France in 2017. Total sales increased by 1.8 per cent after they still sank by 0.2 per cent in 2016. These figures have been published by the industry association Promojardin.DIY stores remain the largest sales channel by far with a total sales share of 34 per cent, however they performed comparatively weakly. Their sales increase amounted to 2 per cent, while the garden centres (share: 25 per cent) grew by 3 per cent. The motorists were the sole sales channel to enter the minus range, and that even at -9 per cent. The highest amount of growth was, not surprisingly, recorded by e-commerce, which grew by 16 per cent, however still has a market share of only 3 per cent. The leisure category grew most strongly with a rise of 6 per cent. The largest decline - analogous to the development of the distribution channels - was recorded in motorised gardening equipment, whose sales sank by 7 per cent. Outdoor plants, who have the largest share of total sales with 20 per cent, achieved growth of 5 per cent, while indoor plants were still at 4 per cent at least.
