The Danish builders' merchant chain Stark closed financial year 2017/2018 (ending 31 August 2018) with positive figures again, after bringing in a loss (profit before tax) in the previous year of EUR 4 mio. Most recently sales have significantly grown again, namely by 4 per cent to EUR 910 mio. Profits before tax shot up to EUR 137 mio, results for the year are being listed as EUR 120 mio.
Stark has strategically repositioned itself under its new owner, the American investment company Lone Star. The chain focusses to a greater extent than before on the small and medium-sized companies that buy building materials. At the same time, store closures and large-scale operations have been part of the new strategy.
