The Chilean retail group SMU has sold its building materials and DIY chain Construmart for USD 50.625 mio. The new owner is the private equity firm Hammer. The decision to sell was already announced last year. At the end of 2017 Construmart had 35 subsidiaries in Chile. In recent years the chain has increased its retail share, according to a company report. As a result, the share of private customers has increased from 13 per cent in 2011 to 37 per cent in the past year. 
Based on an overall market volume to the amount of CLP 2 810 mio, Construmart has a market share of 9 per cent. SMU now wants to completely concentrate on its business in the field of supermarkets.
