The Swedish Byggmax group has closed the third quarter with net sales of SEK 1.8128 bn and an increase of 2.5 per cent. Net sales for comparable stores increased by 1.0 per cent.
In the first nine months of 2017 the company made sales of SEK 4.3712 bn, thus 3.0 per cent more than the same period last year; like-for-like increase was 0.3 per cent.
However hiding behind the positive figures are problems with the Skånska Byggvaror sales channel which was taken over at the start of 2016. Its sales sank in the third quarter by 9.6 per cent to SEK 227.1 mio and in the first three quarters by 8.8 per cent to SEK 591.8 mio. Profitability has also suffered. The latest Q3 interim report states that the first steps of the expected 18 to 24 month journey to transform Skånska Byggvaror into a modern leader in garden living are completed.
In contrast Byggmax, the main sales channel, has grown significantly. Its quarterly sales of SEK 1.5541 bn lay 4.4 per cent over the corresponding comparative value of 2016. In the first nine months, Byggmax stores in Sweden, Norway and Finland increased their sales compared to the previous year's value by 4.9 per cent to SEK 3.6862 bn. The new garden concept is to be extended to eight to ten stores in 2018, the Byggmax mini format is to get three to five additional locations.
