In the USA, price increases have had an impact on projects by home owners who carry out their own home improvement work. In November, 47 per cent of the "DIY home owners" who were surveyed by the market research company Fransworth, said that the increased costs of materials has led them to postpone such projects. In October, this was only stated by around one third of those surveyed. Almost just as frequently (46 per cent), the availability of material is given as reason for postponing a DIY project.
Among professionals, the costs of materials in this context do not play such a major role; as only 37 per cent stated in November that price increases were the reason for project delays. The main obstacle (49 per cent) was the availability of material.
It also looks less dramatic among home owners who approach such projects in a do-it-for-me process. Only 35 per cent of those said that the availability of materials had an impact. The second most frequent impact (29 per cent) they stated was the lack of skilled workers.
