Leroy Merlin España gets record sales and takes to the city centre

Leroy Merlin España has brought in record sales for the fifth year in a row. In the past year, the subsidiary of the French Groupe Adeo made sales of EUR 2.046 bn and thus 7.3 per cent more than in the previous year. Of this, EUR 39.1 mio was generated through the Internet (up 55.9 per cent).
For the current year, Managing Director Ignacio Sánchez Villares has not only announced six new openings, but also a move towards new formats and target groups. Because in 2018 there will be one pilot store each in the city centres of Madrid and Barcelona. He also spoke about the merging of Leroy Merlin with Akí, Adeo's second largest Spanish sales channel, as a key project which will help "the sales formats to adapt to the different situations and requirements of the consumer". The company wants to invest EUR 122.1 mio this year. By 2022 a total of 31 new stores are to be created for an investment sum of EUR 600 mio.
As in past years, Sánchez Villares emphasised the importance of the Spanish manufacturer. Of the 1 729 suppliers, he says, 83.4 per cent are Spanish companies; however they only account for 70.6 per cent of the purchasing volume to the amount of EUR 1.250 bn.
