Swedish retail chain Clas Ohlson has now provided specific information about how its previously announced strategic reorientation is to be realised. The company is targeting growth in the Nordic countries in particular with new service offerings and online business. Sales generated online currently account for 3.5 per cent of overall sales and are below the market average.
Clas Ohlson estimates the Scandinavian home improvement market to be worth SEK 90 bn. Added to this is a market for home services with a volume of EUR 15 bn. "Most people in the Nordic countries know, like and rely on Clas Ohlson," said president and CEO Lotta Lyrå. Against this background the company wants to play a bigger part in simplifying people's everyday lives.
As a first step Clas Ohlson has unveiled its new service Clas Fix it. It will work with Pegital Investment to develop services aimed at solving practical problems in the home, meaning projects that are too simple for a traditional tradesman, but too difficult for the customer. Clas Fix it is expected to be available in Sweden from fiscal 2019/2020. Clas Ohlson has an ownership share in the subsidiary company established to handle the services.
The service and advice provision in the stores is also to be improved, while the company intends to simplify and rationalise its internal procedures as well.
