Byggmax grows by 29 per cent in 2020

The Swedish DIY trading group Byggmax made sales to the amount of SEK 6.801 bn (EUR 675 mio) in the year 2020 and thus achieved growth of 28.9 per cent. The group's currency adjusted like-for-like sales increased by 28.5 per cent. In the fourth quarter, the retailer's sales increased by 28.7 per cent to SEK 1.222 bn (EUR 121 mio). E-commerce sales grew by 60 per cent, this was around 50 per cent in the year 2020. The online business has a share of around 20 per cent when calculated over the entire year. "Our model of integrating e-com and stores enabled faster growth," the financial report stated. "Order online, pick up in store" grew much faster than home delivery and is a strength with our 169 stores, and e-com sales typically increase 15 per cent where a new store is opened."
The primary sales channel, the 169 stores under the Byggmax brand (116 in Sweden, 43 in Norway and ten in Finland) has grown somewhat more strongly overall and has increased by 29.3 per cent to SEK 6.158 bn (EUR 611 mio).
The much smaller brand Skånska Byggvaror grew by 25.0 per cent to SEK 643 mio (EUR 64 mio). This e-commerce company has eleven physical shop-in-shop concept stores, seven in Sweden and four in Norway.
For financial year 2021, the management has announced further investments in e-commerce, the modernisation of further locations to their Store-Konzept 3.0 and the opening of twelve new stores. Byggmax will be the first DIY retailer in the Nordics region to offer a track & trace service, giving customers a live status for their online orders.
