The market for garden plants in Great Britain reached a volume of GBP 1.424 bn in 2017. Of this figure, bedding plants accounted for GBP 606 mio, an increase of 3 per cent on the previous year. Sales of seeds and bulbs grew by 4 per cent to GBP 345 mio. The biggest growth, amounting to 9 per cent, was in sales of other garden plants and trees, attaining a market volume of GBP 464 mio. These figures from the Horticultural Trades Association were published by the organisers of the Glee garden fair (10 to 12 September 2018).
Sales of house plants yielded an even bigger increase, with this segment growing by 14.27 per cent in 2017, according to the Garden Centre Association.
