DIY retailers in Austria made sales of EUR 1.49 bn in the first six months of this year and thus 8.3 per cent more than in the same period last year. (The like-for-like increase amounted to 7.1 per cent.) These figures have been published by BHB, the industry association for the DACH region (German-Austria-Switzerland).
As in Germany, the coronavirus effect massively took hold in the second quarter due to the reopening of the stores after several weeks of their closure. From April to June, sales compared to the same quarter last year shot up by 20.0 per cent, like-for-like by 19.0 per cent.
Among the assortments, the largest sales winners were the product groups paints/painting supplies (+25.1 per cent) and wood (+17.6 per cent). "Interestingly", according to BHB, less sales were made by garden furniture (-14.9 per cent) and technology/office/entertainment (-11.2 per cent).
