The Russian DIY store chains Superstroy and Stroy Arsenal are vanishing from the market after a co-owner, OOO Arsenal Trade, was declared bankrupt. However, some of the 29 Superstroy stores are to continue operating under the new name Domostroy.
The entrepreneur and politician Vyacheslav Brozovsky has acquired six Superstroy stores on a ten-year lease, for the most part complete with staff. Three of these (Neftekamsk, Berezniki, Kamensk-Urals) have been rebranded as Domostroy and another three stores are to open shortly. Negotiations are currently taking place regarding the acquisition of the superstroy.ru webshop, according to several reports in newspapers and by online services as well as company information sources. No buyer has been found to date for the three large-format Stroy Arsenal stores.
Vyacheslav Brozovsky, who is a member of the legislative assembly for the Sverdlovsk region, is the owner of Brozex Holding. The company has so far operated chiefly as a manufacturer of dry mortar, paint and other building materials, restricting its retail activities to five smaller stores in Berezniki and a webshop.
According to reports, Brozovsky is still looking for sites covering between 4 000 and 5 000 m² in towns with around 100 000 inhabitants. A financial outlay of 30 to 35 mio roubles is envisaged for each of these stores, including their own stock of building materials. In larger cities such as Ekaterinburg, however, Brozovsky has no ambitions to open a Domostroy outlet, being content instead to act as a supplier for Leroy Merlin.
Arsenal Trade was previously the market leader in the Urals with Superstroy and Stroy Arsenal, but then had to cede the territory to international companies, especially Leroy Merlin. The company therefore initiated liquidation proceedings itself in late autumn 2016, which is why simplified insolvency proceedings without the option of restructuring have been implemented.
