The British press is reporting that Bunnings wants to withdraw from Great Britain again and owner Wesfarmers is looking for a purchaser for the Bunnings and Homebase stores. There is also talk of a plan to close the 40 stores.
Reports of enormous difficulties on the part of the Australian DIY store chain with its British subsidiary, which was acquired in 2016, have cumulated in recent times. Last week for example, The Guardian quoted GlobalData's retail analyst, Patrick O'Brien, with the words: "Homebase is undoubtedly the most disastrous retail acquisition in the UK ever".
