An "outstandingly positive mood" was the verdict of fair director Oliver P. Kuhrt, referring to the latest edition of the International Plant Expo IPM. The world-leading horticultural fair drew to a close last Friday, 26 January, after a four-day show. The exhibitor and visitor attendance figures didn't quite match up to those of a year ago, with Messe Essen recording 54 000 visitors as compared to an official figure of 57 000 at the last show. The number of exhibitors was also slightly down on last year to 1 564 exhibitors from 45 countries (2017: 1 577).
However, the IMP continues to follow its trend towards internationalisation. The proportion of foreign visitors increased from 36 to 38 per cent. "That is a top-class result," commented Kuhrt with regard to the figures. "IPM Essen is the global number one of the green trade fairs."
On the whole, the show presentations focused more on sales concepts than individual products. Against this background, the Hortivation hotspot at the IPM harmonised well with the show concept. Under the mottos "Family Garden", "The new gardener" and "Eat your greens", trends and POS ideas for horticultural retailers were set in context here.
The next IPM takes place from 22 to 25 January 2019 in Essen.
