The British Kingfisher group is purchasing Praktiker Romania. This is according to reports from the Romanian industry service Bricoretail.ro and other Romanian media. Kingfisher is already present in Romania with 15 Brico Dépôt stores. The British group is now taking over 100 per cent of the shares of Praktiker Romania from its previous owner Omer Susli and his family. The company currently operates 27 stores in 23 Romanian cities and, according to Susli, made sales to the amount of € 140 mio in 2016. Together with the Brico Dépot chain, this strategic takeover provides Kingfisher with "A strong presence throughout the whole country," according to Adela Smeu, CEO of Brico Dépôt Romania.
The Turkish businessman Omer Susli, with his company Search Chemicals, had purchased the Praktiker stores in Romania in 2014 after the German parent company had gone bankrupt. Even in the last year the chain had started a large-scale modernisation of the locations.
