Clear plus in Great Britain, clear minus in France: for the British Kingfisher group, the first quarter (ending 30 April 2019) was characterised by very different trends. Overall, sales grew by 1.7 per cent to GBP 2.835 bn (EUR 3.246 bn).
On its home market of Great Britain and Ireland, the company made GBP 1.284 bn and thus 5.0 per cent more sales than in the same period last year. The sales channel Screwfix may be strong at 9.6 per cent, but no longer achieved double-digit growth. B&Q rose by 2.8 per cent, also like-for-like.
In contrast, sales in France declined by 3.4 per cent to GBP 1.020 bn after adjusting for currency effects. Castorama lost 2.4 per cent, Brico Dépôt 4.5 per cent.
Business in Poland (+7.4 per cent) and Romania (+10.1 per cent, like-for-like +24.6 per cent) went well. In contrast, there were downward figures in Spain (-0.4 per cent) and Russia (-5.1 per cent).
