Growth for the top 10 in North and South America

21.06.2018

The top 10 DIY retailers in North and South America achieved combined net sales of EUR 203.7 bn in 2017. That was 1.9 per cent more than the previous year. However Dähne Verlag, who provided these statistics, took the average exchange rates for the different currencies to the euro as basis for the overall year; in contrast, very different rates of change arose in each of the local currencies. For example, Sherwin-Williams presented the highest growth rate by far with 17.1 per cent plus. Sears stands at the bottom of the ranking with a decline of 29.9 per cent.
Only two companies from South America are among the ten largest home improvement retailers: the Chilean Falabella group with its store brands Sodimac, Imperial, Maestro and Dicicio, as well as the Cencosud group, also from Chile, with its Easy and Blaisten stores.
The statistics from the Dähne Verlag publishing house included a total of 21 985 home improvement stores in North and South America at the end of 2017. That was 94 stores or 0.4 per cent more than the previous year.
