DIY stores in Germany have increased their sales in the first half of 2018 by 1.7 per cent compared to the same period last year. In the garden segment, the increase amounted to 2.9 per cent, representing sales of EUR 2.73 bn. The garden irrigation range contributed most to this growth. These figures from the market research company GfK were made known at the Garden Summit of the German DIY retail association BHB following the Spoga+Gafa in Cologne.
Garden centres lost almost 1.8 per cent in sales in the same period, in the garden range in a narrower sense (so without pet food for example), the decline amounted to 0.5 per cent. Garden centre sales in garden products amounted to EUR 776 mio in the first half 2018.
