The garden market in Germany had a sales volume of EUR 18.595 bn in 2018. This corresponds to a growth of 1.4 per cent according to provisional figures by the market researcher Klaus Peter Teipel and IFH Retail Consultants. For the current year Teipel foresees a decline of 0.3 per cent for DIY stores in the garden segment. The reason for this is the good business during last summer's heat-wave, particularly in the assortment ranges technology, garden furniture and water in the garden. In contrast, Teipel expects an increase of 2.4 per cent for specialist garden centres.
Garden hardware developed particularly well in Germany in 2018 with an increase of 2.8 per cent. Living green products achieved an increase of 0.8 per cent; in contrast, the biological-chemical sector had to record a decline of 0.9 per cent.
