In September, Clas Ohlson will open another Compact Store in the Fältöversten shopping centre in central Stockholm. The company announced this move in its latest quarterly report. In addition to a broad range of products, the store will offer various services such as advice, tool hire and Clas Fix it. The Swedish retailer introduced the compact format in 2016.
Clas Ohlson is currently in the process of restructuring its store network and putting this to the test. "Due to changing consumption patterns, we will change both the number of stores and their orientation at a faster pace," said Lotta Lyrå, president and CEO. The decision has been taken to close four stores in Finland and one in Sweden, while the four stores in Germany have also been closed. There are currently three stores still operating in Great Britain.
In the first quarter (May to June) of fiscal 2019/2020, Clas Ohlson's sales increased overall by 4 per cent to SEK 2.044 bn (EUR 191 mio). Sales in comparable units also rose by 4 per cent, while online sales increased by 20 per cent to SEK 112 mio (EUR 10 mio).
