German garden market grew by 0.5 per cent

The German garden market attained a volume of € 18.244 bn in 2016, growing by 0.5 per cent, the same as in 2015. According to figures produced by the market researcher Klaus Peter Teipel, the biggest sub-segment, shrubs and plants, experienced the lowest growth at 0.3 per cent and reached a volume of € 9.923 bn. Garden hardware increased by 0.9 per cent to € 6.645 bn, while biological and chemical garden products likewise grew by 0.9 per cent to € 1.676 bn.
DIY stores outperformed the market as a whole. Their volume of garden product sales rose by 1.8 per cent to approximately € 4.39 bn. Specialist garden centres also delivered above-average sales totalling roughly € 2.26 bn, equivalent to growth of 1.4 per cent compared with the previous year.
