The Swedish retail chain Clas Ohlson increased its sales in fiscal 2017/2018 (ended 30 April 2018) by 3 per cent to SEK 8.211 bn (EUR 800.1 mio). In local currencies, sales increased by 3 per cent compared with the preceding year. Sales in comparable store units and local currency were unchanged.
During the course of the year the growth rate for online business was considerable, increasing by 33 per cent. For the year as a whole, sales generated over the Internet amounted to SEK 295 mio (EUR 28.7 mio), equivalent to around 3.6 per cent of total sales. Fourth-quarter online sales increased by 48 per cent, with a 64 per cent rise in April, the last month of the financial year.
Clas Ohlson's total sales in the fourth quarter (February to April) came to SEK 1.683 bn (EUR 164.0 mio), an increase of 7 per cent over the same period in the previous year (6 per cent in local currencies, 3 per cent in comparable units and local currencies). The company regards the fourth quarter as the first in which it implemented its new strategy "100 more years". Online operations are an important element in this.
