The market for garden equipment and decoration in the European Union shrank by 0.2 per cent to a volume of € 12.396 bn between 2010 and 2015.  Most recently, every European household spent an average of € 55.39 per year on such products. The three largest markets - Italy, France and Germany - make up almost half of the total volume. Out of these, only Italy has grown. In this case, the market grew by 3.5 per cent to € 2.463 bn.
These figures come from the Management Report "Consumer expenditure in Europe", which IFH Köln, the institute for retail research in Cologne, was commissioned to carry out. It was Messe Frankfurt who commissioned this research for Ambiente, the consumer goods trade fair. In it, the authors also look at these groups of goods to which not only decoration products, plant containers and garden ceramics belong, but also garden furnishings. However wood and water in the garden were not included.
The trade journal DIY International will be publishing a more extensive report in its next edition.
