Under the direction of the Federal Office for the Environment, representatives of the retail trade, the horticultural sector and compost producers in Switzerland agreed a memorandum of understanding at the end of June 2017 to reduce peat usage in the country. One of the aims of this initiative is to cut the proportion of peat in bags of potting compost (measured against the overall volume) for consumers to a maximum of five per cent. Signatories to the memorandum include Jumbo.
