The German DIY store operator Obi will build two stores by 2017 and later another four outlets on its own land in Russia. To date Obi Russia has opened its stores there mainly on leased plots.
The company currently has 25 stores in the Russian Federation. It intends to open another four in 2016 and a total of seven stores in 2017. The new stores will be located chiefly in and around Moscow, although some are envisaged in the regions also.
"According to our estimates, the investment in constructing one store will amount to € 30 mio," explained the head of Obi's Russian operation, Ian Strikland, to the Novosti news agency. The overall area of the two stores will be 14 000 m², of which 11 000 m² will be pure retail area.
