German and British handymen are spending more online than their neighbours

04.04.2017

Germany and Great Britain are the countries in Europe in which the most home improvement products were purchased online - in terms of the respective national markets and the number of items sold, not turnover. In both countries in the past year, 9.9 per cent of all purchased home improvement products were ordered on the Internet. The most popular product groups in Germany were gardening tools and hand tools, in Great Britain these were power tools and gardening tools. These results have been published by the Dutch market research company USP Marketing Consultancy from their European Home Improvement Monitor. In both countries there had been a further rise in the online ratio, that being from 9.1 per cent in Germany in 2015 and from 8.6 per cent in Great Britain.
The Belgians are those who most infrequently buy their home improvement products on the Internet. The ratio here was only 3.6 per cent (2015: 2.6 per cent). This can be primarily explained by the fact that the US online giant Amazon is not yet active in this country.
