The reason for this decline over the same sales area has been given by the Swedish company as the high level of growth in the corresponding previous year's period. This was influenced by new mortgage regulations in Sweden, resulting in an increase in demand. According to the company, the overall market environment was not favourable this year: the Swedish building supplies market decreased by 1.6 per cent during April and May; the Norwegian market decreased by 5.4 per cent, and the Finnish market grew by 0.8 per cent.
This situation, specific to the building supplies market, is also reflected in Byggmax's sales channel figures. While stores under the main retail brand Byggmax made 4.6 per cent more sales in the second quarter, sales by the Skånska Byggvaror channel decreased by 12.3 per cent.
In terms of future development, the company management is focussing on a new strategy, the first steps of which have already been implemented: there is a new smaller store format in smaller towns as well as a new garden concept. They are also aiming for a transformation of Skånska Byggvaror into a provider in the field of garden living.
