Leroy Merlin puts new logistics centre into operation

24.11.2016

The French chain of DIY stores, Leroy Merlin, has opened a new logistics centre with a surface area of 100 000 m² in Moscow, near to Domodedowo airport. It will initially serve as dispatch centre for Internet orders. Later its functions will expand to include branch orders to shorten delivery times.
The investment is said to have cost five bn RUB (around € 70 bn) and 700 workplaces have been created. The object is reported to be one of the most environmentally friendly and energy-efficient buildings in Russia. Every day 150 trucks are processed there; an increase of 400 to 500 is planned.
Chief executive Vicent Gentil is certain that the new distribution centre will promote Leroy Merlin's development in Russia: "In two years we will have 100 stores. We will be working together closely with Russian producers. Their share is currently around 50 per cent, in five years we intend increasing that to around 70 per cent. In 2019 our second distribution centre will be completed in the north of Moscow," says Gentil. He also announced that the company wishes to expand towards Siberia and the Far East.
