Baumax increases DIY sales by 8.5 per cent. International activities account for more than two thirds of this

Last year Baumax achieved group sales of  € 828 mio in the DIY sector. This constitutes an increase of 8.5 per cent over the figures for 2000. In Austria the group notched up sales of € 522.5 mio from 73 locations, which is 1.3 per cent higher than the previous year. According to information issued by the company, the like-for-like increase is greater at 2.4 per cent because three smaller outlets were closed down in the course of new building projects. Baumax is chalking up two-figure growth rates in central and eastern Europe. The overall total of 44 branches in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia have increased their turnover by 23.6 per cent to € 305.42 mio. It is as a result of this that international activities now account for a 37 per cent share of aggregate turnover.
