A slight increase in sales, but a bigger increase in the number of stores: this trend in the Japanese DIY market, which has persisted for years, continued in 2017. Home improvement stores increased their overall sales by just 0.10 per cent compared with the previous year to JPY 3 989 bn (roughly EUR 30.24 bn). However, the number of home improvement stores recorded by the Japan DIY Industry Association rose by 1.06 per cent to 4 760. As a consequence, sales per store fell further and are now only equivalent to JPY 838.03 mio (EUR 6.35 mio).
DIYinternational.com documents the trend in the Japanese home improvement market continuously. Users of the premium service can find the table containing the figures since 1990 in the Industry/Distribution section or under Statistics/Countries and markets.
