The Australian Wesfarmers Group reports continued dramatically declining sales for the involvement of its Bunnings subsidiary in Great Britain and Ireland. In the third quarter of the financial year, i.e. from January to March 2018, sales there dropped by 13.5 per cent to GBP 211 mio compared to the same period last year; calculated in Australian dollars, this was a minus of 6.5 per cent to AUD 374 mio. The like-for-like decline amounted to 15.4 per cent. The first three quarters resulted in a drop in sales of 14.7 per cent to GBP 726 mio (-12.9 per cent to AUD 1.245 bn) and a like-for-like decline of 13.9 per cent.
In contrast however, activities are proving to be as strong as usual in the home market of Australia and in New Zealand. Here, quarterly sales rose by 8.9 per cent to AUD 3.042 bn. The first nine months from July 2017 until March 2018 brought cumulative sales of AUD 9.589 bn and an increase in sales of 9.6 per cent.
