Amazon is digging deeper into the plant business. The online giant has now set up the Amazon Plants Store. Although the company has been selling plants for quite a while, such sales were only handled hitherto via third-party suppliers via Marketplace. Now Amazon will itself operate as a retailer of plants.
The arrival of the Plants Store in the US market is being seen by the horticultural sector as a sign that Amazon will be branching out into plant sales in other countries too. One of these could be Germany, where Amazon has already begun to sound out the market. However, players in the German market believe that instead of creating a dedicated infrastructure there with its own greenhouses, for example, the online retailer would work with a major plant distributor.
