Cencosud grows by three per cent with home improvement

06.03.2018

Despite a decline in the Chilean domestic market, the trade company Cencosud closed last year with an increase in sales of 3.0 per cent to CLP 1 333.439 bn (EUR 1.805476 bn) in its home improvement division. The number of locations in all countries has remained unchanged.
The 35 stores in Chile made CLP 514.788 bn (EUR 697.022 mio) and thus 1.0 per cent less than in the previous year. Same store sales declined by 0.9 per cent.
In Argentina, Cencosud's largest market in this segment, the company made CLP 755.352 bn (EUR 1.022747 bn). This was 6.3 per cent more after adjusting for currency effects. As the Argentinian Peso was heavily devalued compared to the Chilean Peso, the unadjusted increase rates look quite different: same store sales increased in local currency by 24.8 per cent.
The devaluation of the currency also tarnishes Cencosud's overall balance in Colombia. Here, sales at the ten locations declined by 0.7 per cent to CLP 63.299 bn (EUR 85.708 mio) after adjusting for currency effects, while same store sales were stable with an increase of 0.2 per cent.
